This is the first of its kind to be produced and designed in Australia. Many years went into designing and engineering how the axle would be placed under this vehicle, and a further few months for it to be the truck you see before you. This Isuzu started its life as a standard FYJ 300-350 8x4 LWB, and after a little bit of mechanical magic and an insane number of hours in production it is now an Isuzu FYJ 300-350 10x4 LWB with a gravity fed steerable pusher axle and fitted with a HL-20 West-Trans Equipment Hook Lifter.
But why is this such a unique truck?
The secret lies just beneath the surface and starts with the running gear. This FYJ still runs the ultra-reliable Isuzu 6UZ1-TCN (9.8L 6 Cylinder Turbo Diesel). After this reliable engine is where things take a trip West to American running gear starting with the 6 Speed Allison Automatic Transmission (4430 Series), followed by 3 Hendrickson Differentials and Axles starting with the gravity fed steerable pusher axle with super singles, then a drive and bogie axle ready to take on any Australian conditions.
The fun doesn’t stop here, being a steerable lift up pusher axle, this 10x4 is on the shortest possible wheelbase and not only has the shortest turning circle of any Isuzu 10x4 in a forward motion, but it also has the lightest tare weight (12,340 Kg) and lowest deck height of any others in its class, making this truck truly unique and outstanding in its field. Additionally, it hosts 300L of usable fuel allowing this truck to travel longer keeping you on the road to get the job done.
